Two from today’s Boston Globe: (1.) Military hardware budget as pork-barrel jobs program sets Obama/Gates trimming hopes against vote-hungry Congressional Democrats. There’s a big Pratt and Whitney engine/parts plant in my town of North Berwick, Maine (see map): “A dog fight Obama seems bound to lose: Congress backs F-22 fighter the Pentagon doesn’t want”.* (2.) “The next conservative thinkers: Many Republicans fret that the party of ideas has gotten stuck. Here are four who might help unstick it.”

What is the Massachusetts National Guard going to do with F-22s? Is Connecticut rearming?
Eight of thirty of last week’s editoons, courtesy of the Boston Globe, updated Mondays, so these are a tad back of the curve but fun nonetheless:

What the heck: one week more previous can’t hurt – even the late Billy Mays gets his pen-and-ink sendoff:

it was that pinko, commie Eisenhower who said beware the military-industrial complex. The F-22 illustrates how effective the defense industry is at getting its way. It has spread production all over. It is more of a jobs program at times than a defense industry. I hope Obama and Gates win out here, but am not overly optimistic. I would not be surprised if Gates resigns over this if it is passed.
The second article is good too. I read three of them often. I am less familiar with Wilcox, but if he is truly interested in divorce and single parenthood, rather than the gay marriage bogeyman, he could be on the right track. Finally, a Christian conservative who sounds like a Christian. How novel.
