Just as we were getting ready to shut off the television last night we stumbled upon his speech to a Muslim group. We paused to listen for a minute and then we were hooked.
When it was over my wife wondered out loud if he read me much. I grunted. She pointed out a lot of what he said was what I’ve been saying for awhile now.
I had some difficulty with his God stuff. But I got over it pretty quickly by conparing it to the fat on a steak. You don’t have to eat it. It’s not that nutrutional. And it gives the meat its flavor. And some people think it’s the best part of the steak.
My immediate reaction was to want to go make something with Rick. Get his hands busy, his mind off track, and then have a discussion about stuff. The good stuff if you know what I mean. I know it sounds unfair. But you really get to get to the heart of what someone believes when you get them out of their comfort zone when discussing it.
Yeah, I would like to sit down and have a conversation with Rick. I believe it wouldn’t take me long to have him looking at homosexuals through the eyes of a parent.
Now I’ve got to be the one to make a change. You see before actually listening to him I thought Obama was the smart one in the Invocation controversy. Now I realize there were two smarts involved. Obama in picking Warren because Warren is a very smart man.
I have more hope today than I had yesterday.
It isn’t the steak, it’s the sizzle, right? Fat sells but it’s the meat we eat.
One of the big disadvantages of the media and people splitting into polarized camps, is that is possible to not really interact, on any kind of deep level with people who hold opposite views. I hear and read bright people on both sides of the spectrum. Most of the people with whom I work are very red in their outlook, especially at the smaller hospital where I sometimes work. At the larger hospital there is significant blue influence. None of these people are demons. No one is a Marxist and no one drags their knuckles. They are all just people with different opinions, some better informed than others.
